│ Description of Easy Mail TM │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
This program is quite possibly one of the best utilities written for
BBSs. It is an address book for use with Internet E-mail, and/or
Fidonet NetMail. It should make the sysop's and users' experience
with NetMail much easier and faster. No longer do you have to type
in long or hard to remember e-mail addresses, rather you and your
users will store those addresses in your personal e-mail address book.
Carbon Copies are supported, and there is support for several network
addresses, RIP and more.
Easy Mail was written with the Open Doors programming library. It's
predecessor, Easy Address, is in use all over the world by Synchronet
SysOps. Easy Mail is now here for everyone else running BBS systems
and it is easier to setup than ever before thanks to a built-in
configuration program. It also has all of the features that SysOps
expect to find in a well built program.
Some of it's greatest features are:
- an easy to use configuration program
- allows users to address e-mail messages with one keystroke
- Supports carbon copies that may have internet and fidonet style
addresses in the same message!
- Supports internet<->fidonet gateways (GUUCP or GIGO) automatically
with no effort on the part of the user or SysOp.
- allows users to store hundreds of addresses with personalized
notes about each address (if the he/she desires)
- allow SysOps to configure a file of default addresses that are
loaded into the users address book the first time they use Easy
Mail.
- Allows SysOps to configure their network addresses and names, so
users will be able to see what their address is any time they press
H for help.
- allows SysOps to customize the colors used in the program
- Support for external editors
- Supports DSZ, GSZ, or CEXYZ for file transfers (if the SysOp is
allowing File attaches)
- Support for FOSSILS and NON-STANDARD IRQ settings.
- Simple RIP support for clickable menus
- Support for DOOR.SYS, CHAIN.TXT, SFDOORS.DAT and EXITINFO.BBS
drop file types. The door will run with other drop file types,
but the listed types include the USER NUMBER, which is NECESSARY
for keeping track of the address books. Another method may be
used later, if anyone requests a different drop file type be used.
As you can see Easy Mail is an excellent addition to any BBS System.

│ Installation of Easy Mail │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
To set up Easy Mail follow the instructions given below. They include
setting up Easy Mail in your BBS System, and using the CONFIG command
line parameter to configure Easy Mail.
1. Create a directory for Easy Mail
e.g. mkdir c:\sbbs\xtrn\EASYMAIL <ENTER>
2. Copy ALL of the archive files to this directory.
e.g. copy *.* c:\sbbs\xtrn\EASYMAIL <ENTER>
3. Use the CONFIG parameter to run the Easy Mail configuration
e.g. EASYMAIL CONFIG <ENTER>
Most options are self-explanatory, but the following need to be
remembered when configuring Easy Mail:
- The internet option must be one of the following:
The FULL fidonet gateway (GUUCP or GIGO) address that you use
to send internet e-mail e.g. 1:13/10 If you do not know
about GUUCP addresses, look in the archive GUUCP.ARJ for
more information.
NONE - if you want to diable the internet e-mail option.
- The Use GIGO Format refers to if you want Easy Mail to address
internet gated messages in the older GIGO format or the newer
GUUCP format. This allows support of both types of addressing
schemes listed below.
e.g. Older GiGo Style (Use Gigo = YES)
To User- UUCP To Address- 1:13/10
First Line of Message text- To: campbel@onramp.net
Newer GUUCP Style (Use Gigo = NO)
To User- campbel@onramp.net To Address- 1:13/10
Message Text is normal
- The configuration options that allow you to specify what your
fidonet, or internet addresses require that you ONLY specify
the domain portion of the addresses, and NOT include a user
name. Easy Mail will display the users name and @ sign where
appropriate. If you do not have one of these addresses use NONE.
e.g. I would just use 1:124/8047 for my fidonet address
- For the external editor configuration, you should enter the
command line to run the editor, and may use the following symbols.
%% - PErcent sign
%# - Node Number
%A - User's Na
